Media upset with Sania and Shoaib
There’s
always new drama happening at the Mirza household ever since Sania announced her
marriage plans with Shoaib. If not dealing with fatwas and police cases, the
couple now have to deal with backlash from the
media.
The boycott,
finally
This was much awaited. On Tuesday evening, irritated by the
insensitive behaviour of the Mirzas, the media present at Sania’s
residence lost their cool. They had been waiting to capture snapshots of the
newly-weds and record their statement, but the couple and family members simply
chose to ignore the media. It took some photographers to compel the duo to wait
for a picture, which they did for a few seconds.
Enraged by the
“pricey” attitude, the contingent blasted Sania’s PR as she
came out with a statement of the happenings of the day. By now, the media was
simply not interested in knowing the affairs inside the house. It was more
important for them to know what made the Mirzas and the Maliks act the way they
did. One reporter blasted saying, “Even the most famous Bollywood couples
oblige the media by posing for them after their wedding and giving a statement.
What makes Sania-Shoaib run away?” The PR said, “We will keep you
updated about everything,” but didn’t say if the couple would
actually come out and speak.
Fuel
to fire
What added fuel to fire were the packets of sweets handed
over by the securitymen to the media. News channels began airing the drama
immediately showing the treatment meted out to them. After refusing to eat the
sweets, they sat in front of the gate. “We want the Mirzas to view our
boycott through the CCTV they have installed to monitor our movements. Let them
now see that we are least interested in them. They should understand that we
have just been doing our job and they should have co-operated. Can’t the
couple just come out and say a few words?” said an irritated reporter.
Least affected
The
Mirzas, however, seemed least affected by all the hullabulloo outside. Around 9
pm, a group of singers and dancers were spotted coming out from the
Mirzas’ abode with their dholkis. “We have been here since 1 in the
afternoon. We were called to sing and dance and make the couple as well as the
family dance to our tunes,” said Sahira, one of the members. “Sania
mast naachti hain, humne Sania aur Shoaib, dono ko ek saath nachaya,” said
Afisa, another member. And the songs they danced to? “Sania and Shoaib
danced to Mehndi laga ke Rakhna and Kajra Mohabbat wala, and we got both
families to the floor on Udi Jab Jab Zulfe Teri, Aei Meri Zohra Zabi.... Shoaib
bhi achcha naach leta hain but Sania is better,” said Sultana, another
group member. The group which sang songs from 1 - 9 pm was paid Rs
10,000.
Unsensational,
really
Imran Mirza later came out and said, “There is nothing
sensational happening inside. Mehndi is an all-ladies’ affair so all the
women in the house are busy with the ceremony.”
