The Film:
Yagam is supposed to be a thriller and the narration is without any suspense while the characters appear contrived.
The Synopsis:
Santosh (Navdeep) a DJ in a a pub in Hyderabad. He is in love with Nandini (Bhumika Chawla), who is an air hostess. They make a happy go lucky pair. Then things change for the worse when Nandini goes on a regular flight to Bangkok. Certain circumstances involving businessman Sanjay Arya (Rahul Dev), pilot Antony ( Kumar), a Thai politician result in the death of Nandini.
Then arrives Danny (Navdeep again) having a torrid affair with Sophie (Kim Sharma). Then mysteriously Arya, Antony et al get killed. Police officer Buchi Babu (Ajay) and his assistant Chandra Mouli (Harshavardhan) investigate the murders.
The rest of the story unravels the mystery behind the killings and leads to a predictable climax.
The Performances
Navdeep is hampered by a regressive script. Bhumika’s role is too short for her to impress. Kim Sharma is the glamour bait for the viewer. Rahul Dev is wasted. Ajay and Harshavardhan are the only redeeming factors. All others are just screen props.
The Techniques
Director PA Arun Prasad should know that the genre of thrillers do not simply depend on queer camera angels and halfway openings. The theme of vengeance should always be based on a strong and irreconcilable premise. By the time you try to find out what is happening on the screen, you are
confronted with The End title Dialogues are weary and hard on the ears.
Music by Mani Sharma is listless and drags the narration into hiccups. Camera work is OK.
The Verdict:
Do yourself a favour by avoiding Yagam.
