The Film:
The title however not suited the storyline but may obliquely depict the transformation of the five main characters.
The Synopsis:
It is completely about five different people who do not have any relation but happen to meet at the end of the story. Vivek Chakravarthi (Manchu Manoj) aspires to be a rock star, though her mother wants him to join the armed forces where his father was martyred. He arrives in Hyderabad with his rock band.
A debt-ridden weaver Ramulu (Nagaiah) arrives in Hyderabad to sell the kidney of his daughter in law to educate his grandson.
Raheemuddin Qureshi (Manoj Bajpai) has a personal tragedy during communal riots and he is mistaken for a terrorist.
Cable Raju (Allu Arjun) is a slum dweller in Hyderabad and is in love with a rich girl (Deeksha Seth).
And then Saroja (Anushka), a prostitute who escapes from the clutches of her brokers, arrives in Hyderabad to start a high class brothel.By chance they all meet and how each responds and transforms each one of their lives forms the rest of the story.
The Performances:
Allu Arjun and Manoj Bajpai come out with good performances. Manch Manoj is good and so are the actors of his rock band. Anushka looked uncomfortable. Nagaiah is convincing. All others go through their motions according to the script.
The Technicians:
When 5 lives and five of those stories are to be plaited into one thematic narration, there has to be logic in the way they meet and it should also be emotionally convincing. The screenplay has its pitfalls, though the presentation is good. The dialogues do not always convey what the character intended to communicate. The climax could have been more convincing. The cinematography is good. And so is the music and sound design. The production values are good.
The final judgment:
Vedam has come with a reputation that the director earlier made Gamyam. However, the theme and attempt at novelty has to be appreciated.
